Show your car some TLC this spring.

Now that harsh winter weather conditions are finally fading away, you may assume that your car is good to go.  However, car maintenance is a year-round commitment that you can't forget about this spring.  Here are some of the things that you should do to take care of your car this season.

  • Check Alignment and Suspension

After harsh winter weather conditions, there may be more cracks and potholes in the roadway.  Unfortunately, going over a severe crack or a big pothole can damage your car's suspension system and throw your car out of alignment.  This, in turn, can make your car more difficult to steer.  If you are concerned about your car's alignment and suspension, then have your car inspected and adjusted by a qualified mechanic.  Your mechanic may also have to replace your shocks and springs as needed.

  • Change Out Car Fluids

The beginning of spring is a great time to check and replace the various fluids in your car.  For starters, you should get your oil changed, especially if you use different oil viscosities in winter and summer.  You should also have your mechanic look at your car's antifreeze levels, brake fluid, transmission fluid, and windshield washer fluid, and add more if you are running low.

  • Have Your Brakes Inspected

During your car's check-up, you should request to have your brake pads and rotors checked for wear and tear.  If your brakes are worn down, or you hear a noise when applying your brakes, then it's time to have them replaced.  You should also have your local mechanic check your brake lines for signs of corrosion and leaks.

  • Wash Your Car

Salt, chemical deicers, and melting ice can cause damage to the body and underside of your car.  Now that the weather has improved and you no longer have to worry about these substances, you should carefully wash your car to remove any remaining bits of these corrosive materials.  To seal out any other damaging substances, apply a coat of wax to the body of your vehicle as well.

These are some of the important car maintenance tasks that you should keep up with this spring.  Want another way to take care of your car?  Then make sure you have the right auto insurance protection in place.  For assistance with all your car coverage needs, contact the experts at the Scavone Insurance Agency Center LLC in White Plains, New York today.
