Camping is a fun summer activity that the whole family can enjoy together. Keep these camping safety tips in mind to ensure everyone has a safe and fun camping experience.

  • Get vaccinated. There are many different diseases and conditions you can get while camping. Make sure to get vaccinated for tetanus, meningitis, and pertussis before going camping.
  • Prepare healthy and safe food. Pack all food in waterproof bags and keep it cool in insulated coolers. Make sure all food is cooked to the proper temperature to avoid any food borne illnesses.
  • Fight bug bites. Apply insect repellent that contains DEET to all exposed skin to avoid dangerous bug bites, including mosquito bites that may spread West Nile Virus.
  • Protect yourself from the sun. Make sure to apply sunscreen that has at least 15 SPF and protects from both UVA and UVB rays whenever you are going out into the sun. Try and stay in shaded areas during the hottest parts of the day.
