Make sure to come out and enjoy all the fun at the White Plains Columbus Day Festival on Sunday, September 14^th. All of the fun and excitement starts at 12 noon at White Plains High School. This free event if fun for people of all ages, so make sure to invite the whole family out.

The Columbus Day Festival kicks off the Italian heritage and culture month. This year's event marks the 5^th anniversary of the festival, and is sure to be full of excitement. The festival will feature games, rides, dancing, music, vendors, crafts, Italian and American cuisine to enjoy, and much more. Make sure to mark your calendar for this Sunday to ensure that you do not miss out on all the fun.

Columbus Day is celebrated on the second Monday of October as a way to remember the arrival Christopher Columbus to the Americas on October 12, 1492. Columbus is credited with being the first European to sail across the ocean and make it to the Americas. The first Columbus Day was held in San Francisco in 1869 as a celebration of Italian-American heritage. The holiday was first celebrated state-wide in Colorado in 1907, but was not become a nationally recognized holiday until 1937.

There is some controversy surrounding the celebrating of Columbus Day since the settlement of the Americas by Europeans led to the death of most of the population of the native people. Many others do not believe that Columbus should not be honored since he did not make it all the way to the mainland of America and only made it to the Caribbean.
