1. Always Wear a Helmet

2. Wear Appropriate Gear

• Gloves: The first thing you're going to do when you fall is put your hands up to break your fall. Concrete and hands don't go well together, but with the right gloves, you won't damage your hands (all that much).
• Jackets: You may see people riding in t-shirts, and they may look cool but when they fall and tumble they're going to get nasty cuts. With the right jacket your can protect your skin (and your expensive clothes).
• Reflective Gear: Make sure that you're visible! Your gear should be reflective so that cars and other vehicles can see you.

3. Pretend No One Can See You

A safe assumption to make to keep you safe. Only switch lanes when you know you can make it. If you have any doubts, just wait a few seconds for another opening. If you miss your exit, just take the next one. It's not the end of the world.
