Everyone makes New Year's resolutions and a majority of those people will often give up on their resolutions-rarely lasting more than two months. New Year's resolutions are our way to start the new year in a positive light. A new year gives us enough incentive-at least initially-to hit the reset button and try to live the lives we should have lived the year before. If you are tired of giving up on your New Year's resolutions year after year, take these tips into consideration. (Note: It is going to take a lot of hard work and dedication on your part. Positive lifestyle changes often do.)
How to Keep Your New Year's Resolutions
One Resolution at a Time
Once you understand that your willpower is limited, it's easy to understand why multiple resolutions are not likely to work. This is because one positive lifestyle change often requires many behavior changes. A successful weight loss program is not just about eating less. You must shop, cook, and exercise differently and more often. Thinking about the specifics of your resolution boosts success rates.
Break it Up
Saying you are going to lose 20 pounds is a good goal, but it's easier said than done-especially if you do not have mini-goals throughout the year. If your goal is to lose twenty pounds over the year, you can divide that into monthly goals. 20 pounds/12 months = ~1.67 pounds per month. Suddenly your goal seems achievable.
