How to Avoid an Upset Stomach During HalloweenHalloween means free candy for children who have dressed up as their favorite hero or villain, but so much sugar at once can cause them to have an upset stomach.

We've all been there: you get back home from a successful Halloween, dump all your chocolate in your room, and start eating as much candy as you possibly can. As children, we have no concept of what our digestive system can or can't handle, so we think everything will be fine and dandy. A few hours later, we're hugging the toilet as our bodies reject the insane amounts of sugar we consumed and have decided that expunging it from our system is the best course of action.  Here are a few tips on how to avoid an upset stomach during Halloween.

  1. Saying Yes to (Some) Candy
Candy in moderation is okay and won't affect your children all too much. But banning candy altogether may lead your child to rebel and develop an unhealthy relationship with sweets which could result in further complications. Halloween is a great time to talk to your kids about moderation and the idea of delayed gratification.
  2. Tiny Portions for Tiny Tummies
Your children's stomachs are still developing and still small. Mini chocolate bars, instead of full-sized ones should be the route you want to set your child to go. A full-sized chocolate bar can have half of their recommended fat intake along with unfathomable amounts of sugar. This way, kids can still eat their candy without the consequences of an upset stomach.
