Boat Insurance White Plains NYGet Ready For The Coming Season

To protect your boat against the freezing winters we experience, you are careful about how you put it in storage. How you take it out of storage matters, too. There are a few steps you should be sure to take in order to ensure your time out on the water this summer is stress-free. Here are a few tips for prepping your boat for the summer.

  • Clean the hull, deck, and topsides with a mild detergent. As you do so, check for any abrasions, gouges, or worse that could need your attention. Apply antifouling paint as needed on your hull. Finish your cleaning with a coat of wax.
  • To ensure your boating is enjoyed in style, clean and oil your teak and clean and polish any metals on board.
  • Check your spare parts and ensure you have the necessary replacements so you never get stranded out on the water.
  • Take a look at your rudder and fittings to ensure everything is still in good working order.
  • Check your pulpits, lifelines, stanchion, ground tackles, and lines.
  • Ensure that your life raft has not been damaged.
  • Look for oil in your bilges and check the pumps.
  • Inspect all life rings and life jackets.
  • Test your fire extinguisher. Recharge it if necessary.
  • Flush out your water tank.
  • Change the oil and filters of your inboard engine(s). Also, change the fuel filter if necessary.

Another way to protect your boat this summer is by reviewing your boat insurance policy to ensure it still offers sufficient coverage.
